Hope carried to Inle Lake: standing with Aung in Myanmar

Orange-paint-line-1 - COPY

Our friend Aung carries a deep vision to see his brothers and sisters in Myanmar encounter Jesus. His passion was ignited when, as a high school student, he watched his friends earnestly seeking and worshiping at altars to gods that could not answer them. His heart broke for them, longing for them to know the true freedom, love, and redemption found only in the Living God.

Today, Aung is trusting God for 200 church communities to be planted across Myanmar. This is no small task, especially in this nation where Christianity and the name of Jesus are often viewed as a western religion, and where exploring faith in Christ can come at a great personal cost. Strong Buddhist traditions, family expectations, and community pressure can be a barrier to overcome for individuals to openly consider the claims of Jesus. Yet even in places where the Gospel seems foreign, we know that God is already at work.

Aung recently journeyed into Shan State, Myanmar, travelling to the region of Inle Lake to share the Good News of Jesus with communities who have had little opportunity to truly hear and respond to the Gospel. He spent time among the Pa-O, Taungyo, and Intha people groups—communities living in rural and geographically isolated areas around the lake and surrounding hills. These are beautiful places, rich in culture and tradition, yet many people there remain unreached by the love of Christ. During Aung’s visit, 15 people responded to the Good News, breaking ground for others to come to know and love Him.

This is why Aung’s ministry matters so deeply.

As an indigenous missionary, Aung carries the message of Jesus in a way that is relational, humble, and culturally understood. He goes not as an outsider, but as a brother—sharing truth, building trust, and bringing hope where doors are closed to outsiders. At Issachar Alliance we count it a privilege to walk alongside leaders like Aung. Our heart is to strengthen, encourage, and sustain trusted local leaders who are serving faithfully on the front lines sharing the Gospel.

The fruit of investing in faithful leaders has never been clearer to see. When we first began building friendship with Aung, he had already planted three churches. Since then, through support, encouragement, and partnership, we have in a short space of time seen that number grow to 28 churches, in these hard-to-reach communities.

Aung’s greatest area of focus is equipping local leaders and raising up missionaries who can go — multiplying the work far beyond what one person can do alone. This is the power of backing indigenous mission work. Together our investment and support can have a significant impact—transforming lives, bringing hope, and helping spread the Gospel into places many will never physically reach or see.

If you have ever wondered whether your support is making a difference, the unfolding story of Aung’s ministry is an incredible answer. Thank you - together, we are seeing the Glorious name of Jesus going into places where it has never been heard before.
